Chapter 1

Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” played in the background as Simon Frasier sat on the front steps of his frat house nursing a beer and a wounded ego. Inside about 100 of his closest chums were partying ‘like it was 1999’, celebrating the end of Fall finals. The frat had gone all out and hauled in about 10 kegs of beer. His big, Buddy Remos, had his cousin’s punk band playing live. It was the hottest party of the year.

Under normal circumstances he’d be living it up with the rest of the house. Yeah, normally, he would be sitting inside downing Fosters and staging a coup in Jackass. But then there was nothing normal about tonight.

Tonight his dream girl, Violet Walsh, had dumped him.

“We’re just too different, Simon,” she said with tears glistening in her eyes, “You deserve somebody who is going to appreciate all your qualities. Good and bad.”

Good and bad? What the monkey’s tit was that supposed to mean? He supposed it wouldn’t smart so much if he hadn’t watched the tearful Violet walk off the porch and down the block where she met a bloke of whom she obviously enjoyed all the qualities, because she slipped an arm around Mr. Wonderful’s waist as they walked away. Fart! He’d never been dumped before! He’d managed to make it all the way through grammar school, prep school, moving to the States and four years of college before getting the ol’ heave-ho. And with the long list of girlfriends he had in his past there had been plenty of opportunities for dismissal. But somehow it had always been he who had done the dismissing.

Guess the nickname of “Mr. Untouchable” had run its course, he thought sarcastically taking a swig of beer. He didn’t even want to think of the flack he’d catch from his fraternity brothers for getting the boot from Violet. Why did he have to talk all that dung about how great she was to everyone?

“She is better than anything you could imagine,” he told Buddy, “This one is different, mate, trust me.” Argh, braggart!

Simon laid his back against the floor of the porch and beat the barrel of his fist against his forehead.

Katie quietly opened the door and stepped out onto the porch. From the moment she’d entered the noisy, crowded house a few hours ago, she couldn’t seem to keep her eyes off of him. She had come to the party looking for a little college fun to liven her boring high school life. Walking through that door she caught her first glimpse of the man of her future.

At the time he was all entwined with some vamping brunette, who obviously didn’t appreciate that she was cuddled up to wet dream material because the vamp glanced at her watch like she was late for a hot date or something. You can’t get any hotter than the guy you’re standing next to, honey, Katie thought. The friends she came with had long since run off, so Katie asked around to get dreamboat’s name. Getting information from loud drunken fraternity guys not as easy as it looked, if it even looked easy. Every time she asked one of those testosterone laden meatheads a question they’d ask her ‘why do you care about Frasier, when you can have me?’ Gross. That’s like asking ‘why do you want juicy tenderloin when you could have stale beef jerky‘.

She had finally gotten the particulars after she’d switched sexes and started interrogating the females. Her guy had a bigger fan club than New Kids on the Block and they all seemed to be at the party. “Oh you mean Sigh” grinned one bubbly blonde. “Sigh? Short for Simon?” “Short for Sigh-Moan,” the blonde said demonstrating the moan.

“Er, thanks,” Katie said insincerely, turning her back as she mouthed Tramp.

“He’s from Australia?’ Katie questioned a redhead.

“Uh huh, came here on some special exchange program.”

“What’s his major?”

“Simon is a jack of all trades but I think he finally settled International Business.”

“Wow you really know a lot about him.”

“He’s my boyfriend’s best friend.”

Ta Da! Katie celebrated . She had just found the one female present that couldn’t possibly have designs on Simon. Twirling a silky, golden strand of hair around her finger Katie said to herself in a saucy Aussie accent “So Simon is from Down Under.”

“Yeah....I wouldn’t mind if he got down under with me,” the redhead said in a dreamy voice. Katie stopped twirling. Nope, another tramp.

She was looking around the room for another informant when she spotted Simon and the brunette making their way out the front. Stopping herself from running after them, she slowly mingled her way over to the door. The big door was a jar and faint traces of a conversation could be heard through the screen door. After glancing around to see if anyone was paying attention to her, Katie sighed dramatically, resting her head against the doorframe, and grimacing like she had a headache. From her strategic position at the door she caught snatches of what was going on on the porch.

Oh my god!! Katie exclaimed to herself, the vamp was dumping him! Poor Simon. Obviously the brunette was blinded by....something. Which means, Katie thought excitedly, the coast is clear. She listened as Simon’s gal pal beat a tearful dramatic exit and then openly watched as Simon and his bruised pride swam in a sea of self-pity. Now standing on the porch, she quietly walked over to where he was laying. His eyes were closed and he looked to be slumbering. She leaned over to get a better look. The shadow must have alerted him to her presence because one eye opened and eyed her warily. “Who are you?”

Katie flashed him her biggest brightest smile. “The girl of your dreams."

Chapter 2

Simon opened his remaining closed eyes and blinked owlishly up at the pretty blonde standing over him.

"Are you full?"

"Full? I think you've had too much to drink," Katie said holding out a hand to help Simon up.

"No," Simon said ignoring Katie's out-stretched hand and rolling to a sitting position on his own while running a sobering hand over his face, "I asked if you had too much to drink."

"No you didn't. You said 'Are you full?' I..."

"Which means," Simon interrupted impatiently, "Are you drunk? Plastered? Fuddled? Intoxicated?"

"Well how was I supposed to know that?" Katie said throwing a hand in the air.

Simon buried his face in his hands and peered at Katie through cracked fingers.

"Why are we arguing?" he said dropping his hands.

"I don't know," Katie said, sitting down beside him, "You started it."

"heh" Simon sounded.

Katie beamed her bright smile again, "But I forgive you."

"Well, thank God for small favors," Simon said sending a sardonic grin Katie's direction.

"I figured if we're going to have a future, I'll have to learn to let things go."

Simon shook his head and stared at the young girl beside him.
She was a hot little number with silky blonde hair, skin so unblemished it practically shined and eyes the color of a clear summer sky.
And she obviously couldn't handle her alcohol very well, either that or she was crazy, which wasn't that far from the realm of possibility.

"I wish I could take you up on what you are so willingly offering, but I'm swearing off the fair sex for a while. A long while."

"Don't let one bad experience with some brain dead bimbo turn you off to the rest of us."

"What would you know about it?" Simon said eyeing Katie suspiciously.

Katie felt a momentary glimpse of guilt. "Just what I heard before I came out here."

"You mean when you were eavesdropping."

"Newsflash, if you want to have a private break-up don't do it on a porch outside of a crowded party."

Simon decided to let it go. What did it matter if one pesky female knew. Pretty soon the whole world would know that he had gotten dumped.

"So you heard all the gory details?"

"Just snatches. And let me just tell you, your lady love needs to work on her fake sincerity."

Simon laughed. "What's your name?"

"Kathryn Peretti, but you can call me Katie."

"OKay Katie can you dig a hole for me to bury myself in."

"Don't be so dramatic," Katie said slapping Simon's knee, "Everybody gets dumped."

"Yeah but not everybody has the friends I do. They are going to crucify me."

Just then a boisterous voice came from the doorway. "What ever you two love birds are doing you have five seconds to stop because I'm coming out."

Simon grimaced as the screen door started to open.

And before Katie, or Simon, knew what she was doing, she wrapped her arms around Simon's neck and kissed him with all the passion she could.

Chapter 3

"Whoa! Simon, who's the blonde? And where is Violet?"

His friend's words went unnoticed because Simon was too busy staring at the strawberry flavored lips that just left his to comprehend anything else.

She kissed him.

And it was nice. More than nice. It sent blood singing through his veins and left him a little breathless.

Suddenly his brow furrowed. Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around? Wasn't he the one that was supposed to delivering the earth-shattering kiss? Oh just great, he's been dumped and upstaged sexually all in one night. After he dealt with Manny he'd get Little Miss Blue Eyes back, Simon thought with a calculated look before finally focusing on his friend.

"…you know Violet, you date. Where is she? Did she decide to leave you for one of those pretty swim team douches that just left?"

And as quickly as Simon's newfound confidence came, it went. "Well, uh…it's interesting that you should mention that," Simon stammered, "because as it happens…"

Katie put a halting hand on Simon's thigh.

"Because," she drawled, " Simon just dumped whatsherface for me."

"Wh..what?!" Simon yelped.

"I see," said Manny, really not understanding at all.

"Simon was trying to be kind about it but Velma was making such a scene."

"Violet," Simon interjected, lips twitching.

"What?"

"Her name was Violet."

"Whatever," Katie said flippantly before turning her attention back to her story, "There was a lot of tears and groveling on her hands and knees. Simon told her that she could tell everyone that she dumped him just so she'd calm down enough to make it home."

"Damn Simon. That's cold buddy. But to tell the truth I always thought that Voilet was a little too flaky for you. Did she really beg on her knees?"

"Uhhh…well…she uh." Simon guiltily stammered.
"Heck yeah she did," Katie interrupted sending Simon an annoyed look.

"Damn," Manny said shaking his head, "So Simon are you and…hey, what's your name?"

"Oh, I'm Katie," Katie said giggling, now giddy that her story was so easily accepted by Simon's friend.

"Nice to meet you Katie. So Simon are you coming in?"

"In a minute. My new girlfriend and I have to settle something first." Simon said staring intensely at Katie.

"Yeah, yeah. That's really what it looked like when I came out here. See you inside."

Simon waited until Manny was back inside the house and the door was closed before turning to Katie with an incredulous expression.

"Would you mind telling me what the hell just happened?"
