(music starts)

Katie and Simon are lying on opposite ends of the bed. Katie looks over toward Simon who has his back to her. She lets out a small sigh.


"Autumn here is filled with rain
Trees of red against a sky of grey
I bring you here to smell the rain
To feel the quiet season's way"

She gets up off the bed and goes to the window. She sees a young couple under the street lamp huddled under an umbrella in the rain kissing and laughing. She closes her eyes and when she opens them it's her and Simon under the street lamp kissing. She takes his hand and they walk into the rain she breathes in deep and looks at him with nothing but love. She's then transported back into her room at the Lake View and she shakes her head. The young couple is gone.

"Mid-October wind is shifting
Pushing us beyond our boundaries
Place you boots in my footprints
And walk along beside the autumn trees
Silence waits"

Katie sits on the window sill and puts her head on the window pane. She wipes away the tears that are threatening to escape. She glances over at Simon who she assumes is sleeping and than smiles a sad smile as she focuses her attention to the lonely street lamp. She wipes away another tear wishing desperatly for true love to happen between her and Simon. Simon, actually, is not asleep, in fact he's wide awake and thinking about Katie.

"I taste the wind, it carries winter
I wrap my hope around the field of grain
I taste your smile, it carries promise
I wrap my faith around the season's change"

Simon pictures him and Katie just simply walking hand in hand in the park. She gets a slight chill and he wraps his coat around her rubbing his hands up and down her arms in an attempt to warm her. She smiles appreciatively and shyly at him. He leans over and kisses her softly and quickly. She blinks a few times and smiles amazed at him.

"Before December closes in
We'll chase the silence from the wind
Almost closing, never catching
Before we know it we have turned the bend"

Simon is back in reality once more and almost gets up off the bed, but stops himself. He rolls over and sees Katie still on the windowsill. She seems to be crying, but Simon can't tell. He just watches her for a moment before turning back on his side and letting out a quiet, yet exasperated sigh.

"Silence waits for us to chase
Silence waits for us to find our grace"

Katie turns around feeling eyes on her, only to see Simon in the same position. She is unaware that he had just turned around a second before she looked at him. Her head once again finds the window pane as she stares into the stillness of the night. Simon blinks back tears of his own wondering if he'll ever be able to make things right with Katie. He gives her another longing look, but she again is unaware of his staring.

(Instrumental Break)

He gives up trying to hide his feelings and decides once and for all to go over to her. He sees her quietly get down off the window sill, but she is still standing looking out the window. He wonder's why the rain and the darkness are so fascinating. He gets up off the bed slowly takes a deep breath and makes his way over to her.

"I will try to give you quiet
I will try to bring you grace
I feel your hands and i hold your skin
And I see the shadows fall all across your face"

She rubs her arms absent mindedly over her arms when suddenly two hands are upon her hands stilling her movement. She closes her eyes and inhales sharply. She turns her head slowly and smiles into his eyes that seem to be shining just for her.

"And I will try to give you quiet
I will try to give you grace
Silence Silence Silence waits
Silence Silence Silence waits"

She leans back into his arms as they wrap tightly around her. He kisses the top of her head and they watch the rain fall on the window. He nudges the side of her face and she turns in his embrace. He smiles and takes her hand leading her to the bed. He cups her face and they lay down next to each other. Katie is both nervous and excited by the closeness of their two bodies. He pulls her close to him and her head is on his bare chest. She traces lazy circles on his chest before closing her eyes and drifting off to a peaceful sleep. He runs his hands through her hair as he too starts to fall into a peaceful sleep.
